Episode 4: Values: Mutually Honouring

Getting Started
We are a church that is constantly seeking, mutually honouring and extravagantly blessing. When it comes to the second of those values, mutually honouring, it is based on a command that Jesus said was one of the two most important commands in the Bible.
“…And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” Matthew 22:39
Jesus said that the way that we loved each other would be a sign that we are his disciples:
John 13:35
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
So often church can be just about our ‘Vertical’ relationship with God. However God cares about the ‘Horizontal’ relationships between us just as much.
We are connected together as one family with God as our Father. Our Father loves to see his children getting along well.
The Apostle Paul writes to a church in Corinth. They were constantly seeking God for more. However, they had a problem with relationships. Paul addresses this using the illustration of a body.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14
12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptised by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
Paul expands the illustration in a humorous way comparing how different parts of the body are like different people within the church. We want to look further at that illustration and to pull out a few things of what that means for us today.
